Julie Yizhe Hu (胡逸哲,she/they) is a theme-based, research-driven 2D & 3D visual artist focused on illustration, graphic novel and entertainment art. Julie’s works explore how we think, feel, and act across different social-historical contexts, shaped by the passionate pursuit of beauty. She’s most interested in creating romantic and thought-provoking narratives.
Julie is committed to researching the social, cultural, and cognitive dimensions of beauty as both an ideal, and an agent of change. For fiction works, Julie works on fantasy and drama with romantic, surrealist and psychological elements. For nonfiction works, Julie focuses on social advocacy and STEAM education.
Storytelling is the center of all of Julie’s art practice; her experience in science communication largely shaped how she thinks and creates. She graduated from Bowdoin College in 2022 with a degree in Environmental Studies and Visual Arts, and she’s currently pursuing a MFA in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design. Her works have been featured by notable institutions (e.g. the ACS, Scientific American, Pomona College Chemistry Department, NASA, China Science Communication). She’s represented by Posts and Telecommunications Press in China.
In their free time, Julie enjoys cooking, wearing Lolita fashion, binging drama, and going on walks in the city and the woods.

A Little Bit about Me:
I have strong interests in discussing topics of romanticism & sensuality, social revolution/upheaval, as well as nature and our existence. My favorite Lolita fashion styles are classical, sweet and gothic, and I often listen to Puccini’s operas on loop. My favorite writer from teenagehood used to be Stefan Zweig.
